Job Description:
Full-time Description FLSA Status: Full-time/Exempt (unless
specified otherwise) Reports to: Principal *Benefits may include:

employment status and location. Job Summary: The Dean of Students
supports the mission of the school by maintaining the discipline
and attendance functions of the school by working to create an
atmosphere of high ethics and conduct throughout the entire school
community. The Dean of Students is also responsible for serving as
a point of information for students and responding to students’
needs in regard to student services and campus life. Position
Responsibilities: General Duties Supports and upholds the
philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school Acts
as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the
Catholic Church Maintains good relationships and works
cooperatively with many people, such as principals, pastors,
clergy, archdiocesan officials, department heads, supervisors,
fellow teachers, counselors, students, parents, support staff, and
custodians, in planning activities, supporting policies, and in the
day-to-day operations of the school Performs other related tasks as
assigned by the principal and/or other administrators Continues to
acquire professional knowledge of current developments in the
educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional
meetings, or by conducting research Encourages parental involvement
in students’ education and ensures effective communication with
students and parents Supports and adheres to the policies and
procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including
the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees
Administration and Faculty Serves on the administration executive
team, the Admin Council and works with the Grade Level Moderators
In conjunction with the principal and the assistant principal,
develops and implements a process of observation and evaluation of
instructional staff Works with the principal in carrying out the
school’s academic and behavioral programs Serves as a resource to
the principal in other hiring decisions as needed Assists with the
self-study preparation and reporting to accrediting agencies Works
with the administration, faculty, staff and parents towards a
positive school climate Provides proactive leadership to engage all
stakeholders in the delivery of programs policies that support the
students’ academic achievement, personal and social development
Work collaboratively with counselors to meet the needs of students
Assists teaching staff in establishing excellent classroom
management policies and protocols Supervises and implements faculty
and staff duty assignments Assists the administration council in
reviewing and revising the Student-Parent and Employee Handbooks on
an annual basis Coordinates substitutes and teacher absence records
Assists when necessary in the recruitment, retention and acceptance
of students Schedules and conduct grade level meetings with
students in partnership with the grade level moderators Attends
professional development in order to keep abreast of educational
trends and research in regards to discipline Attends and supervises
major school events Discipline Responsible for the overall safety
and well-being of the students Assists students in establishing
high standards of conduct Provides an appropriate program and
policies to promote positive discipline behavior Works
collaboratively with director of counseling support services to
provide appropriate interventions and additional support as needed,
for student discipline issues, in order to facilitate their social,
emotional, behavioral development Presents the Student Conduct
Board due process proceedings for suspension or expulsion and other
possible consequences Assign students appropriate consequences for
infractions of school policies Maintains discipline records of
students required by policy, regulations, law or good practice
Investigates student complaints and grievances Interviews students
and witnesses in disciplinary investigations Coordinates with
outside organizations and agencies Communicates, meets and works in
partnership with parents regarding student discipline and school
safety Works in partnership with other Catholic School
administrators particularly Dean of Students Supervision of lunch
duties Attendance Works with the Attendance Officer regarding
attendance and tardies Monitors student attendance and verifies
that all students are adhering to the Texas State Law on Attendance
Communicates with parents, teachers and the Student Success team on
student attendance Investigates attendance issues Assigns students
with appropriate consequences for truancy Decides if absences are
excusable under state law and school policies Advises students and
parents on ways to improve attendance Oversees student attendance
record to ensure all absences are adjudicated Compares information
or data with other records for verification of student attendance
Requirements Requirements: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church Knowledge
of child development, learning, and behavior Ability to communicate
effectively with students and parents in both written and verbal
form Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working
relationships with others in the school community Ability to engage
in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional
growth Ability to organize and coordinate work and to handle
multiple tasks simultaneously Skill in job appropriate technology
Skill in critical thinking and planning Skill in handling multiple
tasks simultaneously Strong organization, communication and
interpersonal skills Able to manage student behavior Working
Conditions: Required to work some nights and weekends Required to
manage high to moderate levels of stress Required to work in
standard classroom and school conditions Required to work a minimum
a full school day Mental/Physical Demands: Required to lift or
carry supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment Required to
maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger
Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see,
and speak on a daily basis Required to perform repetitive physical
tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading Required
to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with
noise, activity, and inclement conditions Requirements
Qualifications : Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited
college or university, Master’s degree in related field or school
administration/educational leadership preferred Technology:
Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and
internet use for educational purposes and multimedia presentations
Experience: Experience is preferred License and Credentials:
Reliable transportation, valid driver license, valid vehicle
